Donny Gray Sr.
1948-2018
Donny Leon Gray Sr., 70 of Hermleigh, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018 in Lubbock.
At Mr. Gray’s request, he will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Miller Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Darold Baldwin officiating. A meal is planned at the Hermleigh Community Center following the service.
Mr. Gray was born on July 23, 1948 in Sweetwater to William Cecil and Martha Ellen Gray.
Donny was a husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many. He may have been stubborn, but he loved his family. He enjoyed many family get-togethers and loved to barbecue. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
When tomorrow starts without me, and I’m not here to see, if the sun should rise and find your eyes all filled with tears for me, I wish so much you wouldn’t cry the way you did today, while thinking of the many things we didn’t get to say, I know how much you love me as much as I love you, and each time that you think of me, I know you’ll miss me, too. When tomorrow starts without me, don’t think we’re far apart, for every time you think of me, I’m right here in your heart.
Survivors include his wife, Jewell Gray of Hermleigh; two sons, Donny Gray and his wife, Melanie, of Loraine and William Gray and his wife, April of Odessa; two daughters, Angela Walker and her husband, Ralph, of Andrews and Michelle Gray of Merkel; seven grandsons, Garrett Gray and his wife, Gabby, of Snyder, Gavin Gray and his wife, Victoria, and Gage Gray and his fiancé, Dustiee Dawson, all of Loraine, Austin Gray, Hunter Gray, Dane Robinson and John Walker; four granddaughters, Lacie Gray, Hannah Gray, Mya Robison and Jolee Walker; four great-grandkids, Abigail, Annabelle, Elliana and Maxwell; and one brother, Danny Gray of Marshall.

Barbara McCormick
1940-2018
Barbara Marie Taylor McCormick, 78, lately of Kerrville, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018 in her home. She was surrounded by her loving husband and children.
Barbara was born in Uvalde to Robert and Marie Taylor on Feb. 6, 1940. She married Claude Ellis McCormick, affectionately referred to as “Junior,” on Dec. 18, 1958.
Barbara spent most of her childhood in Del Rio, where she was the mascot for the high school for four years. Her family moved to Snyder in 1954 for her father’s job at J.C. Penney, and she graduated from Snyder High School in 1958. She left Snyder for Abilene Christian College that summer to start classes.
While in Abilene, she met the love of her life and they were married before year’s end. They left Abilene that winter to return to Snyder where Junior worked at the family business. While in Snyder, Barbara and Junior welcomed three children — Jeanne Marie, Cindy Leigh and Charlie Taylor. She was a stay-at-home mother who committed herself to raising three Godly children and giving them her full support and care. She also opened her home to two exchange students that became like family to the McCormicks — Inge from Austria and Patricia from Ecuador.
Barbara loved Snyder and was very involved throughout the community. She was a regular volunteer and project leader at East Side Church of Christ, where she served faithfully in both women’s Bible study and youth group Bible classes. She relished the opportunity to work with church members on a church cookbook, which her granddaughters use to this day. Barbara was also an instrumental part of the India Mission Fund that East Side still supports and went several times to India to visit with Brother and Sister Medidi to oversee and participate in the work there.
She was Snyder’s Republican delegate, traveling to state and national conventions.
Barbara served several terms on the Texas Historical Foundation board and was active with Women for Abilene Christian University.
Barbara was probably best known for her enthusiasm for photography. Her vastly impressive skills were called on frequently throughout her life, as she documented a wide array of events. Her images were regularly published in the local paper. But more than that, her generosity and kindness were conveyed through her pictures. For every image she took, she made several copies and mailed them to each person pictured or anyone who would appreciate having the image, along with a beautiful card and heart-felt letter. Her pictures have been mailed across nations and over decades and remain treasured keepsakes for those who received them.
Barbara was a world-traveler and shared her love of exploring new places with friends and family alike. No one who loved Barbara missed Texas in Palo Duro Canyon, and everyone had fun walking San Antonio’s River Walk with her. But her travels extended far beyond the Lone Star State and included four of the seven continents. Barbara never met a stranger and could somehow make a connection between everyone she encountered and her hometown of Snyder.
Her love of life was undeniable and unapologetic. She had room in her heart for everyone, and her memory and love will long live on.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Marie Taylor.
Barbara will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 59-plus years, Junior McCormick; her children, Jeanne Ketchersid and her husband, Tim, Cindy Schroeder and Charlie McCormick and his wife, Cayce; her grandchildren, Timothy Ketchersid, Heather Davila and her husband, Jason, Courtney Ketchersid, Madison Schroeder, Garrett Schroeder, Hannah Schroeder, Emma McCormick and Adelaide McCormick; and her great-grandchildren, Thaddeus, Judah and Delia Marie Davila.
A memorial service for Mrs. McCormick will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at East Side Church of Christ. The service will be under the direction of Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville.

Gladys McGuire
1920-2018
Gladys Marie (Stingley) McGuire, 97, of Snyder and formerly of Clarksville, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018.
Graveside service for Mrs. McGuire will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Aikin Grove Cemetery with the Rev. James Brown officiating. The service will be under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 9-9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. McGuire was born on Oct. 4, 1920 in Wellston, Okla. to Herbert and Susie (Davis) Stingley. She married Shealith Clark in 1938. She married Malcolm E. McGuire in 1947 in Odessa. Both preceded her in death.
She was elected and served as the Red River County Tax Assessor Collector in 1981. Mrs. McGuire served as an elder in the New Shamrock Presbyterian Church in Red River County. After moving to Snyder in 1999, she became a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Gladys was a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to four children and their spouses, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She loved her family, friends, playing games and was the champion Scrabble player of the family.
Survivors include two sons, Malcolm E. McGuire Jr. and his wife, Renee’, of Pearland and Don R. Clark and his wife, Rosetta, of Aloha, Ore.; one daughter, Jerry Mullis and her husband, Charles, of Snyder; 10 grandchildren, Aaron McGuire and his wife, Martha, of Houston, Craig McGuire and his wife, Lauren, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Angela McWilliams and her husband, Nick, of Abilene, Don Clark of Portland, Ore., Dana Clark of Bend, Ore., David Clark of Aloha, Ore., Jimmy Mullis and his wife, Kelly, of Kingsland, Jay Mullis and his wife, Debra, and Joy Mullis, all of Georgetown, and Jana Glass and her husband, Rodney, of Snyder; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Serving as pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Special love and gratitude to the Rev. Dana Mayfield and Carmen Timora for their love and friendship of our Mother. Also to the staff of Snyder Oaks Care Center and the special ladies who took care of her.

Nena Mitchell
1923-2018
Nena Foy Mitchell, 95, of Snyder, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018 in Andrews.
Funeral service for Mrs. Mitchell will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home with Gordan Ray Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Mitchell was born on Sept. 5, 1923 in Loraine to George W. and Polly Mae (McInturff) Foy. She married Robert P. Mitchell on Oct. 18, 1941 in Colorado City. He preceded her in death on Dec. 30, 2009. A Baptist, she owned and operated Snyder Drapery for many years in the 1960s and she was a resident of Snyder since 1950.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Jerry Mitchell, six sisters and one infant brother.
Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Goff and her husband, Bobby, of Andrews; one daughter-in-law, Berverly Mitchell of Snyder; three grandchildren, Melissa Mitchell of Snyder, Timothy Fulks and his wife, Kandice, of Andrews and Jeffery Mitchell and his wife, Melody, of Hermleigh; five great-grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.

Joanne Sterling
1934-2018
Joanne Sterling, 83, of Ira, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018 in Lubbock.
Funeral service for Mrs. Sterling will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church with the Revs. LeRoy Ochoa and Matt Lowery officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Sterling was born on Dec. 17, 1934 in Corsicana to Walton Ocie and Jimmie Loraine (Fulton) Tipping. She married Mickey Sterling on Aug. 25, 1951 in Snyder. Mrs. Sterling was a homemaker and member of Knapp Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her twin sister, Jetonne Hardgrave, and her sister, Bille Sharon Neyman.
Survivors include her husband, Mickey Sterling of Ira; one daughter, Melisa Martin of Petersburg; two sons, John Robbie Sterling and his wife, Marla, of Lubbock and Zane Todd Sterling and his wife, Kathy, of Snyder; eight grandchildren, Cody Sterling, Tyson Sterling, Clayton Sterling, Quaid Sterling, Paige Homen, Shonnah Miller, Shana Robbins and Suzannah Chaney; and 10 great-grandchildren.
