Paul grew up in Lakeview before moving to Abilene. Paul graduated from Abilene High School then Abilene Christian University. After moving back to Lakeview and trying his hand at farming, Paul knew that he had a different calling. He graduated from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. The Cogdell Memorial Hospital Auxiliary provided a scholarship for Paul to pursue his medical career, giving him the foundation for the next chapter in his life.
Dr. T, as referred to by many of his patients and friends, began his 33-year medical practice in Snyder in 1979. He took pride in his work and loved caring for his patients before retiring in 2012. When he was not working, Paul enjoyed hunting fishing, traveling, golfing and, most of all, singing karaoke whenever he had the chance.
Paul loved sharing his words of wisdom with anyone who would listen, and his two favorite phrases were “Talent shows and water seeks its own level” and “Always remember who you are and where you came from.”
He was a proud member of the Lions Club, Masonic Lodge and his men’s Sunday school class at Colonial Hill Baptist Church.
Paul is survived by his wife of 32 years, Christy Thompson; one son, Paul A. Thompson III; one daughter, Lea Ann Thompson; one stepdaughter, Paige Bell Culp; one stepson, Blake Bell; his sister-in-law, Sue Thompson; and his nephew, J.T. Thompson. “Papa” leaves behind granddaughters, Alec Hickey, Savannah Bell, Ellis Culp and Emily Bell, and grandsons, Bryan Thompson, Blake Thompson, Brent Thompson, Chase Goodall and Griffin Culp.  He also leaves behind his precious great-grandchildren.
Memorial may be made to Cogdell Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, 1700 Cogdell Blvd., Snyder, TX 79549 or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
