Railroad Commission reports good news for Scurry County oilfield

News from the Scurry County oil patch is good, according to data from the Railroad Commission of Texas.
Updated and late reports continue to help push Scurry County oilfield production totals for 2019 ahead of 2018 levels, and both permits for new wells and completions are up significantly here compared to last year.
According to figures from the commission, Scurry County operators have reported 10.26 million barrels produced during the first eight months of 2019. During the same period last year, operators reported 10.16 million barrels produced.
In August, local operators reported 1.21 million barrels of crude oil produced by Scurry County oilfields, down slightly from the 1.24 million barrels of crude oil produced in July.
Last August, Scurry County oil wells produced 1.27 million barrels of crude oil. In August, operators reported 107 million barrels of crude oil production statewide. In August 2018, operators reported production of 90.4 million barrels, updated to 122 million barrels.
The commission updates figures as late and revised reports are received.
The commission reported that from September 2018 to August 2019, total Texas reported production was 1.427 billion barrels of crude oil and 9.5 trillion cubic feet of total gas.
Crude oil production reported by the RRC is limited to oil produced from oil leases and does not include condensate, which is reported separately by the RRC. Crude oil and natural gas production as reported to the commission for August 2019 came from 176,054 oil wells and 88,823 gas wells.
In Scurry County, the commission issued 15 new permits were issued in September, six more than were issued in August. Seven permits were issued in September 2018.
In districts 8 and 8A, which includes Scurry and the surrounding counties, 555 permits to drill new wells were issued in September, an increase of 19 more than the 536 permits issued in August.
Statewide, the commission issued a total of 796 original drilling permits in September 2019 compared 974 in September 2018.
The September 2019 total included 733 permits to drill new oil or gas wells, 11 to re-enter plugged well bores and 52 for re-completions of existing well bores.
The breakdown of well types for those permits is 197 oil, 56 gas, 474 oil or gas, 59 injection, zero service and 10 other permits.
 Scurry County operators reported 30 completions in September, the same amount as in August. In September 2018 operators reported 19 completions. Many of the completions both years were listed as “well record only,” and included temporarily abandoned wells, repairs and wells that have been completed but not activated.
In districts 8 and 8A, 289 completions were reported in September, down from the 351 completions reported in August.
In September 2019, commission staff processed 583 oil, 137 gas, 25 injection and two other completions compared to 553 oil, 129 gas, 60 injection and two other completions in September 2018. Total well completions processed for 2019 year-to-date are 7,074, down from 8,041 recorded during the same time period in 2018.
Midland County maintained its position as the top producing county with 13.4 million barrels of crude oil in August. In July, operators there reported 12 million barrels and in June reported 11.72 million barrels of crude oil was produced.
Karnes County operators reported 7.97 million barrels of crude oil produced in August, a slight increase from the July total of 7.85 million barrels.
