Balanced offense helps Ira to win over Lady Cardinals

IRA — The Ira Lady Bulldogs moved closer to winning the District 12-1A championship by defeating Hermleigh 67-38 Tuesday.
The Lady Bulldogs (21-2, 6-0) lead Highland by one game in the district standings with two games left. Ira, which defeated Highland in the first meeting, will play the Lady Hornets on the road Friday and finish the regular season by hosting Borden County  on Feb. 9
After leading 13-6 at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Bulldogs led 23-14 at halftime. Ira increased its lead to 42-29 by the end of the third quarter.
All five Ira starters scored in double figures. Sierra Welch scored 15 points and had six rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots. Alyssa Goodwin had 14 points while Savannah Juarez added 12 points. Juarez also had four steals. Shailee Manning and Madison Peterson scored 11 and 10 points, respectively. Manning had four steals and four assists. Peterson had six rebounds.
Aaliyah Sneed led the Lady Cardinals with 10 points. Lillian Digby and Amanda Long each scored eight points.

Boys
Kyler Roemisch scored 22 points to lead the Hermleigh Cardinals past the Ira Bulldogs, 47-33.
The Cardinals built a 16-7 lead by the end of the first quarter and led 24-16 at halftime. Hermleigh increased its lead to 38-28 by the end of the third quarter.
Coletyn King had eight points and Dylan Randolph added seven points for the Cardinals.
Anthony Sosa scored 16 points to lead the Bulldogs. Kaven Dillard had eight points.
The Cardinals are in second place, one game behind district leader Borden County. Hermleigh’s lone district loss came to the Coyotes.

JV boys
The Hermleigh Cardinals JV defeated Ira, 25-23.
Adam Highland led the Bulldogs with eight points. No individual scoring was available for the Cardinals.
Ira will play at Highland starting with the girls’ game at 6:30 p.m. Friday, followed by the boys’ game. The Cardinals will play at Loraine.
