A long football regular season will come to an end for the Snyder Tigers and Ira Bulldogs, but the playoffs are just one week away.
It’s been an unusual season for Snyder under first-year head coach Cory Mandrell. Weather cancelled two non-district games prior to the Tigers opening District 3-4A Division I play with a win at Big Spring.
It’s a new season for many teams after Friday’s games.
Wylie will win the district championship and the No. 1 seed by defeating Stephenville. The Bulldogs will likely play the Gainesville-Wichita Falls Hirschi winner from District 4-4A in a bi-district playoff game.
The next three seeds will be tricky. Snyder could create a three-way tie for second place with a win against Brownwood. Seeding would be determined on a point tiebreaker. The Tigers would be a No. 4 seed with a loss to Brownwood and play Argyle in a bi-district playoff game. In that scenario, Brownwood would be a No. 2 seed and Stephenville a No. 3 seed.
Sanger and Decatur appear to be the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds from District 4-4A.
District 5-1A Division I is not as difficult to predict because the seedings are set. Ira is the No. 2 seed and will play  Garden City while Borden County is the top seed and will play Sterling City in bi-district playoff games.

The girls’ basketball season will start Saturday when Snyder plays at Midland High School. Snyder participated in scrimmages at Albany and Jim Ned this week.
Hermleigh will also open the season Saturday against Lueders-Avoca at home.  Ira will host Roscoe in a scrimmage Saturday before opening the season at San Angelo Cornerstone Nov. 8.
Boys’ basketball teams began after-school practice last week. Hermleigh and Ira have no scheduled scrimmages because of football. Snyder is scheduled to host a scrimmage with Andrews Nov. 8
Snyder will open the season at Midland Greenwood while Hermleigh plays at Leuders-Avoca on Nov. 15. Depending on the football playoffs, Ira is scheduled to open the season at Hamlin on Nov. 22.
Dave Campbell’s Texas Basketball magazine predicted the Ira Bulldogs to finish third and Hermleigh fourth in District 12-1A. The Ira Lady Bulldogs were picked to win the girls’ title with Hermleigh picked fifth.
The magazine predicted the Snyder boys to finish third in District 5-4A and the girls were picked to finish fifth.
