Ira wins baseball opener

HAMLIN — Ira’s Hunter Cotton allowed five hits in a 12-3 win over Baird at the Hamlin Rock Field Baseball Tournament Thursday.

Cotton struck out nine and walked three.

Kade Sanders hit two singles and a double with two RBIs. Cotton had a single and double. Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the second, Ira tied the game with two runs. Ira took the lead in the third on Paxton Cooley’s 2-run single. 

Leading 7-3, Ira scored three runs in the fourth, including two on Sanders’ double. The Bulldogs added two runs in the fifth.

The Bulldogs will play Hamlin at 6 p.m. today.
