Snyder rallied for five runs in the top of the fifth inning to defeat Hereford 7-4 at the Snyder Softball Tournament Friday.

Hereford took a 4-0 lead after two innings, but Snyder rallied for the win. Snyder also beat Fort Stockton 7-3 on Friday.

“We knew Hereford would be our toughest competition yet at the tournament,” Snyder head coach Liz Kimbell said. “We decided to pitch slow early in the game to keep them off-balance. We pitched faster later in the game. Hereford never got its timing.”

Jessica Carroll allowed seven hits and four runs with five strikeouts and one walk to pick up the win.

Snyder scored one run in each of the third and fourth innings. Alyssa Molinar hit a double and scored on Natalee James’ bunt in the third. Hailey Morris hit a solo home run in the fourth.

Claudia Gutierrez started the fifth-inning rally with a home run.

The Lady Tigers took the lead on Nicole Clark’s 2-run single. Snyder added two runs on an error and Kerrington Biggers’ RBI double.

“Biggers has speed and she is becoming more patient at the plate,” Kimbell said. “Alyssa Benitez will put the ball in play. We have a group of good hitters in the middle of the lineup that make things happen.”

Snyder (11-9) was scheduled to play Shallowater at 11:30 a.m. today and Wall at 4 p.m.

“The players have focused and came out ready to play the last four games,” Kimbell said. “Shallowater and Wall will give us a lot of competition and help prepare us for the start of district play.”

Snyder (11-9) will play at Big Spring in the District 5-4A opener Tuesday.
