Snyder High School graduate and Western Texas College golfer Jake Leatherwood has found his next home.
On the school’s athletics website, McNeese State University, which is located in Lake Charles, La.,  announced that the sophomore golfer will play for the Cowboys.
“Jake is a tremendous talent that is going to bring a lot of leadership to our team,” McNeese head golf coach Derek Plucienski said in a press release. “He excels in the classroom and on the golf course. He was an outstanding junior college player and we fully expect him to continue his success on the course here at McNeese. Jake is exactly what we look for in a McNeese Cowboy. He’s wired right. We are excited and can’t wait for him to arrive in August.”
A 2018 graduate of Snyder High School, Leatherwood was named to the all-state team in 2016 and 2018.
After high school, Leatherwood quickly established himself as one of the best golfers at the JUCO level, recording seven top-10 finishes, including a win in the West Texas Open, during his career as a Westerner. He compiled a scoring average of 71.07 in his two seasons at WTC.
Leatherwood retains three years of eligibility at McNeese State and heads to the Cowboys as a sophomore.
