Local players named to all-Big Country basketball team

Seven Scurry County basketball players were named to all-Big Country teams this month.
Snyder’s Alonzo Wesley, who was named the all-Big Country Class 6A-4A player of the year, was named the most valuable player on the Super Team, which is made up of players in all classifications. Wesley, the District 5-4A player of the year, averaged 18.9 points and 7.1 rebounds this season.
Hermleigh’s Makia Gonzales was named to the all-Big Country Super Team’s first team. She was also named the Class 1A player of the year for the Big Country. Gonzales averaged 20 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Cardinals this season.
Hermleigh girls’ head coach Duane Hopper was named the girls’ Super Team coach of the year. Snyder boys’ head coach Lee Scott was named the Class 6A-4A coach of the year.
Two Snyder players were named to the Class 6A-4A team. Teafele Lenard was named to the boys’ second team after averaging 11.8 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Natalee James was named to the girls’ first team, averaging 14.2 points and 4.9 rebounds this season.
Ira’s Karson Valentine was named to the Class 1A boys’ first team. The District 13-1A offensive player of the year averaged 18.3 points and 9.4 rebounds during the season. Teammate Nathan Goodwin was an honorable mention selection. 
Hermleigh’s Lillyan Digby and Sandra Carr were named to the Class 1A girls’ honorable mention list.
