Western Texas fall sports will have to wait until 2021 to take the court.
The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) announced its plans for the 2020-21 athletic calendar Monday, revealing that all fall and winter sports will be moved to the spring, excluding men and women’s cross country.
Football, men and women’s soccer and volleyball will all be played in the spring. Winter sports such as golf, basketball and wrestling will begin in January.
“Our greatest focus is and always has been providing the best opportunities for our student-athletes,” NJCAA President and CEO Dr. Chris Parker said. “Through a unified effort from our Presidential Advisory Council, the board of regents and leadership staff, our most recent plan of action provides a path that keeps our student-athletes competing at the highest level with proper safety measures in place. As we move forward as an association, we will continue to provide opportunities for our student-athletes, coaches and all those involved with the NJCAA to be safe and successful.”
In other NJCAA news, 24 WTC athletes made the NJCAA All-Academic honors list.
Brooke Rauch of cross country, Lewis Richmond of men’s soccer, Montserrat Alsing-Samaniego of women’s soccer and Snyder native and softball’s Taylor Sides were all first-team selections.
