Snyder High School’s Jarrett Reneau didn’t look far in selecting his college destination.
Reneau, who played quarterback and defensive back, signed a NCAA Division III football letter of intent with Hardin-Simmons University on Wednesday.
“I visited the school twice and it  seemed like a great program,” Reneau said. “They have a young coaching staff with a lot energy. They are interested in the players on the field and the classroom.”
Reneau played defensive back for three years and was a Class 4A honorable mention all-state player as a sophomore and junior. He started and quarterback in 2015 and also played on defense.
“Jarrett was thrown in a tough position and never complained,” Snyder head coach Cory Mandrell said. “He did a good job. Jarrett was capable of playing many positions, but we needed him at quarterback. He will do well in the secondary at Hardin-Simmons. He has most of his experience there and is more comfortable. He will do well.”
In 2016, Reneau rushed for 562 yards and scored five touchdowns while completing 101-of-201 passes for 1,194  yards and 10 touchdowns.
On defense, he had 19 tackles, two passes break ups and two interceptions.
“We talked about positions and they lean more to defense and special teams,” Reneau said of the Hardin-Simmons staff. “The coaches said players must prove themselves on special teams. They also will move players to different positions.”
Reneau said he will leave SHS with good memories.
“It helped playing the big teams when college coaches could watch you more,” Reneau said. “I will always remember the friendships and the good environment around the program.”
Reneau said he has not set any specific goals at Hardin-Simmons.
“I hope to make a statement, prove myself and get on the field,” Reneau said.
