The Snyder 10-and-under all-stars scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning en route to a 20-10 win over Jim Ned in District 5 Little League International Tournament pool play at Logan Field Saturday.

On Sunday, Snyder beat Clyde 14-1 in Tuscola to improved to 2-0 going into today’s game against Merkel at 6 p.m. at Logan Field.

“The boys were nervous at the beginning of the game before we got into the groove,” manager Jonathan Mireles said. “I believe we will be a solid team for the reminder of the tournament. Our pitching was nerve-wrecking, but it improved and will be better in future games. I was not concerned after trailing in the first inning because I knew we would come back.”

Jim Ned took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Snyder responded with  five runs in the bottom of the inning. After scoring two runs on two errors, Talyn Chavez, Lorenzo Salazar and Seth Cooper each hit RBI singles to give Snyder a 5-3 lead.

In the second, Jim Ned scored two runs and tied the game at 5-5 before Snyder regained the lead in the bottom of the inning. Snyder scored on an error before Chavez hit a two-run single and Cooper had an RBI single.

Jim Ned scored three runs in the third to cut the deficit to 9-8. Snyder answered with six  runs in the bottom of the inning. Christian Ornelas and Ethan Rios each hit RBI singles and four runs scored on three errors.

After Jim Ned scored four runs in the top of the fourth, Snyder ended the game on the 10-run rule by scoring five runs in the bottom of the inning.

Chavez hit an RBI-single and Salazar added a two-run single.  Cooper hit an RBI-single before Jim Ned internationally walked the next two batters to load the bases. The game ended on a bases-loaded walk to Jamarr Smith.

“We are a young team with five 10-year-olds and the rest of the team are 9-year-old,” Mireles said. “We can contend with any team and hope to get one of the top seeds and a bye for the first round of bracket play. We have plenty of pitchers. They just need to pitch the ball in the zone more.”
