Snyder 11-and-under wins opener

The Snyder 11-and-under all-stars started district 5 Little League International tournament pool play with a bang Saturday.

Aythen Tarin and Mateo Hernandez combined to pitch a shutout while Snyder had 18 hits in defeating Abilene Eastern 30-0 at Logan Field.

Dominic Dominguez and Anthony Luna each hit three singles with four RBIs while Brandt House had two singles and a double with two RBIs.

“The team responded well,” Snyder manager Joel Tarin said. “They have been playing baseball together for a long time. They made every play count. They came out hitting the baseball.”

Aythen Tarin allowed two hits with seven strikeouts and one walk in three innings. Hernandez allowed one hit in one inning.

“I’m proud of the two pitchers and their performances,” Joel Tarin said. “Both pitchers pitched well.”

Dominguez highlighted Snyder’s offense in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI-single and a two-run single. Ryder Garcia had a two-run triple and Tarin hit an RBI-single. Two runs scored on errors and two runs scored on passed balls as Snyder built a 10-0 lead.

Snyder added nine runs in the second. House hit a two-run double while Luna and Leland Lenard had RBI singles. Four runs scored on errors and one run scored on a groundout.

Snyder scored 11 runs during the third inning. Mateo Hernandez hit a two-run home run and Luna hit an RBI-single and a two-run single. House, Dominguez, Raidon Hernandez and Hagan Gordon each hit RBI singles.

Snyder will conclude pool play at 8 p.m. today against Sweetwater at Logan Field.

“We have one more pool game against our rival,” Joel Tarin said. “I expect an intense game, but the players will be ready. We are looking for another shutout, so we can get the top seed and first-round bye in bracket play.”
