Snyder boys end non-district with loss to Lobos

Snyder’s turnover problems and a slow start led to a 54-23 loss to Levelland Friday night in a non-district basketball game.
Levelland took an early 3-0 lead, but Chris Depaz scored to pull the Tigers to within one point.
Snyder later trailed by four points as the Lobos finished the first quarter with six unanswered points and a 14-4 lead.
Midway through the second quarter, Levelland went on a 5-0 run to increase the lead to  23-10.
The Lobos led 30-12 at halftime.
Snyder scored only two points during the third quarter and trailed 44-14 going into the fourth quarter.
“We need to start making shots and quit turning the ball over so much,” Snyder head coach Lee Scott said. “We would have more scoring opportunities with fewer turnovers. Levelland has a great team and have most of its players back from last year’s state tournament team. We should have competed better.”
Depaz scored six points for Snyder. Barron Wesley, Trey Samaniego and Nathan Kendrick each had four points. Hiajomah Hudson led Levelland with 12 points while Caleb McKay added nine points.
“The non-district season is over and we have four days to get ready for Wylie and the District 5-4A opener,” Scott said. “I’m not giving up on this team. I still have high expectations for them. We need to start making more shots and believe in ourselves.”

The Snyder JV team lost to Levelland, 41-37.
Jayden Samaniego made four 3-pointers and scored 14 points. Christian Zapatao and Talon Vandygriff each had six points. J.T. Nelson added five points.

Freshmen
The Snyder freshman team defeated Levelland, 56-54.
Eli Garcia and Teafale Leonard each scored 13 points. Ryan Rodriguez had eight points.
Kobe Roemisch and James Roden each scored five points.
