Snyder defeats Columbus at baseball tournament

NEW BRAUNFELS — Logan Tate supplied the power while Taylor Munkres pitched an eight-hitter in leading the Snyder Tigers past Columbus 8-5 at the New Braunfels Comal Baseball Tournament Friday.
Snyder lost Friday’s first game to Boerne, 8-2.
Tate hit three singles and a double while Munkres struck out five and walked two in a complete-game victory.
In the first inning, Kurt Dryden hit an RBI-single and Jaden Coy had a sacrifice fly to give Snyder a 2-0 lead. Columbus took a 3-2 lead in the bottom half of the inning.
Snyder tied the game at 3-3 on Munkres’ sacrifice fly in the second.
After Columbus took a 4-3 lead in the fourth, Snyder scored five runs in the top of the fifth. A bases-loaded walk to Aaron Escobedo tied the game at 4-4. Dralon Jackson added a three-run triple to give Snyder a 7-4 lead. Jackson later scored on an error.
Columbus scored one run in the sixth.
Against Boerne, Lance Davis hit three singles with two RBIs.
The Tigers scored one run in the first inning on Davis’ RBI single.
Boerne took a 3-1 lead after the first inning and increased it to 6-1 in the fourth. The Greyhounds scored two runs in the sixth.
In the sixth, Davis hit an RBI-single to cut the lead to 8-2.
The Tigers (7-4) were scheduled to play Seguin at 9:30 a.m. today to conclude the tournament.

Softball
BELTON — The Snyder Lady Tigers lost to Canyon Randall 5-2 and West 8-0 at the Belton Softball Tournament Friday.
Randall built a 2-0 lead by scoring one run in the third and one run in the fifth inning. Snyder tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth on Nicole Clark’s two-run double.
Randall scored one run in the sixth and two in the seventh to seal the win.
Today, the Lady Tigers (6-5) were scheduled to play Belton at 9 a.m. and Waco Midway at 3 p.m. to conclude the tournament.

Ira Baseball
HAMLIN — The Ira Bulldogs built an 8-0 lead and defeated Baird 13-4 at the Hamlin Baseball Tournament Friday.
Hunter Cotton allowed three hits, one run, struck out 11 batters and walked six in picking up the win.
Justin Graham hit a single and double. Emanuel Cabrera and Brayden Corley each hit two singles.
The Bulldogs (1-1) will play Hamlin at 3:45 p.m. today.
