Snyder drops district games at Sweetwater

SWEETWATER — Snyder led most of the game before Sweetwater used a 7-2 run to claim a 46-41 win in a District 5-4A basketball game Tuesday.
The Mustangs (4-6, 1-1) took a 41-39 lead with three minutes to play. Snyder (5-20, 0-2) pulled to within 42-41 before Sweetwater made four free throws to claim the win.
Snyder, which led 8-5 after the first quarter, increased the advantage to double digits midway through the second quarter. The Tigers held a 22-9 lead before Sweetwater finished with a 6-0 run to cut the halftime deficit to 22-15.
The Mustangs outscored Snyder 16-9 in the third quarter as the game was tied 31-31 heading into the fourth quarter.
Trey Samaniego led the Tigers with 11 points while Cedrick Quiroz added nine points.

Girls
The Snyder Lady Tigers lost to Sweetwater, 67-20.
Sweetwater (16-9, 2-1) led 13-2 after the first quarter and 21-5 at halftime. Snyder (4-23, 0-3) trailed 53-15 at the end of the third quarter.
Jordan Phillips scored six points and Kirsti Pierce had three points.
Both Snyder teams will host Brownwood on Friday.

The Snyder JV boys’ team defeated Sweetwater, 30-25.

Freshman Boys
The Snyder freshman boys’ team defeated Sweetwater, 44-16.
Kobe Roemisch scored 16 points and Teafale Lenard added eight points. Doran Baiza and Sammy Sosa each had four.
