Snyder girls win consolation title at Stanton Hoopstown Classic

The Snyder Lady Tigers defeated Ackerly-Sands 41-37 in overtime to win the Stanton Hoopstown Basketball Classic consolation championship Saturday.
Snyder led 11-6 at the end of the first quarter and trailed 20-13 at halftime. Snyder outscored Ackerly-Sands 20-13 in the second half.
Nicole Martinez made a 3-pointer and one free throw during overtime.
Allegra Escobedo, who was selected to the all-tournament team, scored two points in overtime and Alyssa Benitez and Kirsti Pierce each made one free throw.
Martinez scored 10 points while Natalee James and Escobedo each scored eight points.
Snyder (3-13) will host Brownfield at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

ANDREWS — The Snyder Tigers lost to Andrews 39-23 in the third-place game of the Gym Bice Classic.
Snyder trailed 9-6 at the end of the first quarter and 18-10 at halftime. Andrews outscored the Tigers 20-13 in the second half.
Abram Smith and Chris Dickinson each scored six points.
The Tigers (4-9) will host San Angelo Lake View at 7:30 p.m. today.

Ira Boys
ROSCOE — The Ira Bulldogs lost to Anson 38-25 in the consolation final of the Blackland Divide Invitational.
Ira trailed 25-13 at halftime and Anson outscored the Bulldogs 13-12 in the second half.
Karson Valentine and Anthony Sosa each scored 10 points.
Ira (3-7) will play at Klondike Tuesday.
