Big Spring controlled the offensive boards and built a 13-point first-quarter lead in a 57-31 win over Snyder in a District 5-4A basketball game Tuesday.
Snyder (4-25, 0-5) trailed 21-8 going into the second quarter. Big Spring increased the lead to 25-10, but Snyder used a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 25-17.
The Lady Steers (6-17, 2-3) led 30-19 at halftime and 41-22 at the end of the third quarter..
“When you don’t execute and block out for rebounds and they get the putbacks, it’s hard to come back,” Snyder head coach T’Leah Eicke said. “Big Spring had 21 offensive rebounds and we had only six. They shot well from the outside and we didn’t. We made 8-of-45 from the field and they made 17-of-58. They had six 3-pointers and we made three 3-pointers.”
Kirsti Pierce scored 11 points for Snyder. Allegra Escobedo had seven points and Rios added five points. Jordan Phillips scored four points.
Kayleigh Penny led Big Spring with 18 points and Kamrey Kemper had nine points.
Snyder will resume the district schedule at Wylie Tuesday and will host Sweetwater on Feb. 3. The Lady Tigers will end the season at Brownwood on Feb. 7.
“I told the players that we needed to finish the season strong,” Eicke said. “We will not quit.”
