Snyder softball team loses final two games at tournament

SEMINOLE —  The Snyder Lady Tigers lost to Shallowater and Midland Greenwood at the Seminole Invitational Softball Tournament Saturday.

In an 8-3 loss to Shallowater, Snyder scored one run in each of the first and second innings. Shallowater scored four runs in the first and two runs in the second. Jessica Carroll hit an RBI single in the fourth to cut Shallowater’s lead to 6-3.

The Lady Fillies added two runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Carroll hit two singles with two RBIs in the game.

Greenwood took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning to claim a 19-5 win. 

Snyder scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, but the Rangerettes increased the lead to 8-2 in the top of the second. In the bottom of the second, Hailey Morris hit an RBI triple and Alyssa Benitez’ 2-run single cut Greenwood’s lead to 8-4.

The Rangerettes scored one run in the third. Maeghan Medrano added an RBI double in the bottom of the third inning for Snyder.

Greenwood scored 11 runs in the fourth inning.

Snyder (6-9) will play at Colorado City in a non-district game at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Snyder Baseball

Snyder’s scheduled baseball game on Saturday at the Cormal Baseball Tournament was rained out. Snyder (6-7) will host the Best of the West Tournament Thursday through Saturday at Moffett Field. The Tigers will play Brownfield at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The complete schedule will be published later this week.

Ira Baseball

HAMLIN — The Ira Bulldogs defeated Anson 13-10 at the Hamlin Hard Rock Baseball Tournament Saturday.

Anson scored three runs in the top of the first inning. Kade Sanders’ 2-run double highlighted a 7-run first inning for Ira.

In the second, Anson scored seven runs to take a 10-7 lead. The Bulldogs scored four runs in the bottom of the inning, including a 2-run double by Paxton Cooley and RBI single by Corley.

Ira scored two runs in the third.

The Bulldogs (3-0) will host Colorado City in a non-district game at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
