Body

High energy was on display as the Snyder tennis team defeated Sweetwater, 14-5, in the season opener at the Snyder ISD tennis courts Tuesday.
Head coach Coby Hamlin said the Tigers were itching to get back on the court.
“The kids couldn’t wait to play,” he said. “Just getting out here with a different opponent means everything. They were ready to see some competition and yesterday, I could see they were chomping at the bit ready to get out here. They were excited.”
The players were able to harness their excitement and focus it on achieving positive results.  The Lady Tigers won each of their matches, going 10-0. The doubles team of Carolyn Stelluti and Mary Kerr didn’t relent a single point to the opposing Lady Mustangs and Avery Schiffner swept her singles match as well, 2-0.
The mixed doubles team of Jaden West and Makenah Short came away with the 2-0 win. On the boys’ side, the doubles team of Xavier Sigarrillo and Andrew McGraw claimed the only doubles win of the day for the boys team, but Chris Moreno, Neftali Jaimes and Antonio Cross all came away with wins.
“This was one of our best first matches I’ve ever seen,” Hamlin said. “We still have plenty to work on but the kids are doing good. We are pulling out some close matches that last year, I don’t feel like we could close. Everybody is playing really good, especially for that first match. It’s going to be a really good season.”
Snyder will travel to Abilene Cooper for a match Thursday before competing Saturday at Midland Greenwood.
