South Plains beats WTC

LEVELLAND — The Western Texas College Westerners lost the regular season finale to South Plains College, 109-76, Thursday night.

Kolbe Kinghorn led the Westerners with 16 points while Jordan Evans finished with 14 points. DaQuan Jeffries scored nine points and had six rebounds.

WTC will play Temple College at 6 p.m. Thursday at Wolfforth Frenship High School in the first round of the Region V Tournament. 

In other opening round men’s games Thursday, Howard College will play McLennan Community College at 1 p.m., Odessa College will meet Collin County at 3 p.m. and South Plans will play Hill College at 8 p.m.

WTC scorers — Kolbe Kinghorn 16, Jordan Evans 14, DaQuan Jeffries 9, Christian Bennings 8, Anton Bilous 7, Jordan Tolbert 7, Ja’Nira Lane 6, Josh Proche 4, Jordan Fullerton 4, Demarcus Hartfield 1.

Women

South Plains College outscored Western Texas College 30-15 in the third quarter to claim a 74-61 win.

WTC led 35-32 at halftime, but was outscored 42-26 in the second half.

Jauslynn Shephard scored 26 points and Esther Udonsi had 15 points. Mayra Garcia had eight points and 10 rebounds.

The Lady Westerners will play Collin County Community College at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the first round of the regional tournament.

In other opening round women’s games on Wednesday, South Plains will play Ranger College at 3 p.m., Midland College will meet McLennan Community College at 6 p.m. and Odessa College will play Hill College at 8 p.m.
