Strong second half leads Tigers to 42-31 win over Breckenridge

BRECKENRIDGE —The Snyder Tigers took the lead for good in the third quarter and pulled away in a 42-31 win over Breckenridge in a non-district basketball game Tuesday.
Snyder and Breckenridge were tied at 7-7 after the first quarter and 16-16 at halftime. The Tigers outscored the Buckaroos 11-5 during the third quarter and finished the game on a 15-9 run.
“We didn’t play our best, but we stepped it up in the second half to do what we needed to do to win,” Snyder head coach Lee Scott said. “Our defense stepped up and we started to move a lot more on offense. That helped us get better shots. We finished shots that we didn’t  finish in the first half.”
Dralon Jackson scored 18 points. Chris Depaz had nine points and Abram Smith added six points.
The Snyder JV team defeated Breckenridge 49-23 and the freshman team won, 35-25.
The Tigers (16-3) will conclude the non-district schedule at Tulia on Tuesday.

Girls
ACUFF — The Snyder Lady Tigers lost to No. 18 Lubbock Roosevelt 60-24 in a non-district game.
Kirsti Pierce scored eight points and Bailey Garcia added seven points.
The Lady Tigers (2-16) will open District 2-4A play by hosting Sweetwater on Friday.

JV Black Girls
The Snyder JV Black Lady Tigers lost to Roosevelt, 43-30.
Angela Murillo led Snyder with 10 points while Marisa Molina added seven points.

Ira Girls
SAN ANGELO — The Ira Lady Bulldogs concluded non-district play with a 60-25 win over San Angelo Cornerstone Christian School.
No. 12 Ira led 28-14 at halftime and 37-20 after three quarters. The Lady Bulldogs shut out Cornerstone 23-0 in the fourth quarter.
Alyssa Goodwin, who made three 3-pointers, led Ira with a game-high 21 points. Shale Manning had 15 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists and five steals. Sierra Welch scored 11 points and had seven steals.
The Lady Bulldogs (16-2) will open District 12-1A play at Hermleigh on Friday.
