Three SJHS teams win volleyball tournament titles

SWEETWATER — Three Snyder Junior High School volleyball teams won division tournaments in Sweetwater on Saturday.
Both seventh grade teams and the eighth grade Gold team won tournament titles. The eighth grade Black team finished third in its division.
Eighth Grade Gold
Snyder won its final three matches to claim the A division title.
Snyder lost to Sweetwater (23-25, 25-23, 15-7) and defeated Colorado City (25-14, 25-18), Sweetwater (25-20, 25-15) and Post (25-18, 25-21).
“We played tough on offense and defense,” coach Bianca Gonzalez said. “We are improving and learning every game. I’m super proud of the team’s level of play.”

Eighth Grade Black
Snyder lost to Sweetwater (25-20, 25-15), defeated Post (25-16, 25-15) and lost to Big Spring (25-22, 25-11).
In the third-place match, Snyder beat Post (25-17, 18-25, 15-8).

Snyder won the tournament by defeating Big Spring (25-8, 25-12), Post (25-13, 25-15), Big Spring (25-22, 25-22) and Sweetwater (25-22, 24-26, 15-8).

Seventh Grade Black
Snyder defeated Sweetwater twice and Big Spring to win the title. Snyder (8-1) swept Sweetwater (25-18, 25-8) and Big Spring (25-10, 25-16) in pool play and beat Sweetwater (25-10, 25-16) in the championship match.
“The girls played awesome,” coach A’lex Lutz said. “I’m so proud of them. We had our ups and downs, but we learned from them and that made us stronger. The girls fought to the end.”
