BROWNWOOD — The Snyder Tigers kept their playoff chances alive with a 40-37 win over Brownwood in a District 5-4A basketball game Tuesday.

Snyder (7-23, 2-5) will conclude the regular season Friday at Big Spring. A win would clinch a playoff spot for Snyder.

Cedrick Quiros scored 14 points and Nathan Kendrick had seven points. Chris Dickinson and Logan Greene each had six points.

“The players fought hard and did what the coaches asked them to do in the second half. It feels good to be on the other end of it. We trailed at halftime and came back to win,” Snyder head coach Lee Scott said referring to close losses to Brownwood and Sweetwater after leading most of the game.

Tuesday’s game was tied at 8-8 after the first quarter. Brownwood led 18-11 late in the first half, but Trey Samaniego made a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 18-14 at halftime.

“We didn’t play with the enthusiasm and energy needed in the second quarter,” Scott said. “We harped on that in the locker room at halftime. We came out in the third and took a 28-24 lead and never gave the lead up.”

Kendricks made a 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter to give Snyder a 39-32 lead. Brownwood scored the next five points to cut the deficit to 39-37. A technical foul by Brownwood sent Quiroz to the free throw line with seven seconds left in the game. He made one of the two free throws.

Brownwood fouled a Snyder player on the ensuing inbound pass, but the Tigers were not able to take advantage.

After two timeouts, Brownwood was unable to score.

“Brownwood set up a play and the kids defended it great,” Scott said.
