Velasquez finishes ninth at golf regional

LUBBOCK — Snyder’s Courtney Velasquez fell short of her goal at the Region 1-4A girls’ golf tournament Thursday.
Velasquez (82-77—159) shot a final round 77 and one shot away from qualifying for the state tournament. She finished tied for ninth place.
The Lady Tigers (356-344—700) finished in fifth place in the team standings, nine shots ahead of sixth place Midlothian Heritage.
Claire Triegar (96-38–179) and AmyAnn Villanueva (94-85–179) tied for 32nd place. Savanna Porter (89-96–185) was 40th while Cylie Velasquez (96-84–190) tied for 43rd.
Andrews Black won the tournament while Andrews Gold finished second, followed by Bridgeport. Those three teams will compete at the state tournament April 25-26 at Onion Creek Club in Austin.
