Weekend to feature cars, quilts and more

Cars in Towle Park, quilts at The Coliseum and washer pitching in North Park. That is just a sampling of what will be available this weekend in Scurry County.
Something is scheduled for every corner of town and all of the events are open to the public.
The 27th annual Snyder Wheels Car Club Show and Cruise will kick off the weekend events today with the show and shine in the park. The show and shine began at 1 p.m. and will continue until 5 p.m. At 8:30 p.m. today, the Kenny Rogers movie Six Pack will be shown for free near the park pavilion. 
On Saturday, events continue at Towle Park, beginning with a timed autocross racing event at 8 a.m. Registration for the pedal car races will be held from 9-10 a.m., with the races beginning at 10 a.m.
A burnout contest, featuring three classes of vehicles, will be held at noon, followed by Hot Wheel races at 1 p.m. The $1 entry fees for the Hot Wheel event will be donated to a local charity.
Awards will be presented at 3:30 p.m., including $750 in prizes to the owner of the top Ford (sponsored by Wilson Motors), top GM (sponsored by Reagor-Dykes) and top Mopar (sponsored by Blake Fulenwider) vehicles. 
The show will conclude with the annual cruise down College Ave. at 7 p.m.
A washer pitching tournament is scheduled for Saturday, but a blind draw will be held at 7 p.m. today at the park. The entry fee is $10 per person. A calcutta is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday and the tournament will begin at 1 p.m. For more information on the tournament, call Manuel Rios at 436-9908.
Also today, the Snyder High School band will present a spring concert at 7 p.m. in Worsham Auditorium.
The Texas Way Trade Days will be held from 3-6 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the armory in Towle Park. It will include locally sourced products and crafts. Admission is free.
The Scurry County Senior Citizens Center annual May Day fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday. Doors will open at 2 p.m. and admission is free. 
Three booths will be open from 2-6 p.m. They are a silent auction booth that will include services, gift certificates and items donated by local businesses; a craft booth that will include embroidered tea towels by Veida Gage, pin cushions and thread catchers, aprons, casserole carriers and other items; and a sweet tooth booth that will include homemade cakes, cookies and breads.
At 3:30 p.m. there will be a cake and pie auction. For entertainment, there will be performances by the Deep Creek Cloggers and musician Cathy Whitten from 4-6 p.m. Ongoing throughout the afternoon will be a cake walk and a slideshow produced by Doug and Susie White with photos from previous May Day events. Scrapbooks will also be on display for attendees to look at.
The Exxon Mobil/Oxy cooking team will prepare the barbecue dinner, which will be served from 4:30-6 p.m. Meal tickets are $9 per plate and may be purchased at the door or in advance by calling 573-4035. Carry-outs will be available.
A quilt auction will be held at 6:30 p.m. Over 30 quilts will be up for auction, including donated quilts and quilts made by volunteers who work on them at the senior center. 
Other activities scheduled for this weekend are:
• The Scurry County Museum will host a volunteer appreciation picnic from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be served, and certificates of appreciation will be presented at noon. 
• The Snyder High School Golden Theatre Company will perform its one-act play Macbeth at 2 p.m. Sunday at Worsham Auditorium. There is no admission.
• Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church will host a Cinco de Mayo celebration from noon to 10 p.m. Sunday.
